They switched to vegetable oil in a (misguided) attempt to make them "healthier". When in France, I stop at a McDonald's there, just to buy french fries. They taste like ours used to taste. [/quote] Actually, part of the reason they changed was that they were lying to vegetarians about the lard. And, in the US, there are many vegetarians and fries are one of the core McDonald's offerings that they like and can eat.[/quote]
