I'm not happy with any of the choices. However, I'm concerned how all the business development under Floreen would affect schools, roads, and traffic. My biggest issues are the schools. I would not have a problem with a pro-development stance if there was adequate consideration for the schools, which I have not seen. The schools are already at capacity and overcrowded. Where are all the students going to go when they build more high density housing? The traffic getting around Bethesda and Rockville is already bad enough. More housing = more cars and people on the roads. I support development of more businesses (stores, restaurants, etc), but the trend is to increase the housing around those and I don't see enough accounting for the burden this puts on schools and traffic. So my vote will reluctantly go to Elrich (I am usually a more moderate voter).
You think business development will put pressure on schools? Business development? If people continue to take their tax dollars to DC or Northern Virginia, and you businesses continue to open in DC and Northern Virginia, while people and businesses both avoid Montgomery county, our tax base will continue to decline. That is not good for the county or for taxpayers, business owners and home owners.
