You can definitely put up stakes or signs. You can definitely call police and ticket.

I think a midway response that stakes your ground (so to speak), makes the point unavoidably clear, and is least likely to cause escalation is to put up something decorative that you could move easily at any time, and would cost a lot less than a fence. Also, look better than just stakes.

Something like a large planter at either end -- with or without decorative stones or mums, and a few large stones filling the gap, spaced out between. Or a hanging lantern or small hanging banner, also with something spaced out midway?
