I felt sad about Jon Stewart departing the way I felt when I heard the news that Steve Jobs had died. A major loss and the end of an era. Who possibly could fill Jon Stewart's shoes? Well, I was pleasantly surprised by Trevor Noah. I even remember thinking that this guy might actually surpass Jon Stewart. And Trevor has been entrusted with this platform, this pulpit from which to influence millions of Americans, a major responsibility. However, lately I find myself cringing over a few of Trevor's annoying habits of speech that I wish he would consider to change. Trevor, if you read this please try to stop using some of your repetitive meaningless phrases like: 1. "I'm not gonna lie". Trevor seems to use this inane phrase at least once or twice a show. Really? If you have to tell us when you're not going to lie, then are you maybe lying all the other times? Can you please delete this phrase from your vocabulary? 2. "I'm gonna be honest." Again, he uses this phrase often. Do you really need to tell us when you're being honest? Again, please eliminate this annoying phrase. 3. "The thing is..." Harmless but useless words. Take any sentence that uses that phrase, and repeat it without the "The thing is", and there is no difference in meaning other than greater clarity in a shorter sentence. 4. "What I'm saying..." Again, harmless, but useless words. 5. "Moving on..." This phrase is used many times as the only words for a seque from one segment to another. It is overused and trite. Can you think of some original ways to transition? For example, "And now..", "Up next..", "In our next bit", "Turning now to...", "Let's now focus on the issue of...", "And what do you think about the fact that...", etc., etc. Mix it up a bit please. Trevor, I'm gonna be honest and I'm not gonna lie. What I'm saying is, well, the thing is that sometimes you say meaningless stuff and it annoys me. OK, moving on..
