That being said, I don't feel unsafe in my neighborhood. None of the shootings have involved strangers or been random. I don't know how APS  can do to make the school safer. The neighborhood is what it is and no one at the school has ever been hurt. There were kids on the basketball court during the shooting, which is really quite close to the shooting (it borders the road). So I 100% get being worried if your kid goes there.

The vast majority of the neighborhood is wonderful and I love living here. But  every solution to reducing crime in the area comes with a lot of issues. For example, stepping up community policing is tough when the police don't have a history of treating POC fairly. Shutting down public housing? Where are those folks going to go? Shutting down the gathering area in the park?  It  destroys a community culture that goes back decades if not more and the vast majority of the time it is just folks hanging out and playing chess and BBQing.
