Girls program is very poor. All the teams re playing in the NGLL (National Girls Lacrosse League) - but all in the B divisions (lowest div) and not one team has won a single game. Not one win in the lowest division. Let that sink in a minute.
I am no Madlax fan here but the girls program is not yet even one year old so what do can be reasonably expected. Most of the girls who are good and play travel already play for other clubs. What will be interesting is if the HS teams for girls take off. There is a definite “need” for more HS girls clubs since so many of them end at 8th grade.
You are right there is a need for more HS teams but the only girls who will go to madlax will be those who can’t make the top established teams like Capital, M&D and Skywalkers. And even then, girls who don’t make those teams are going to go to MC Elite, VA Metro, Cardinals, or Crash, before they turn to a new club that can’t win a game at the grade school level and that has the name of a crazy obnoxious jerk of an owner attached to it.
This isn't necessarily true. Some girls will go to MadLax if there's a chance to play a lot and be seen and to stand out. They also might go because it's a new club and they are sick of the politics at existing clubs. As a parent of a child who could make some of these top teams, the appeal of going to a club like Madlax is that when college coaches come to see the games (or when they watch film after the fact) you will be a feature. We have met with top D3 coaches (NESCAC) and they told us that athletes pop no matter what team they play with. They don't care who else you play with if you can demonstrate top skills. Ideally you want one or two other decent players to string together plays to make it fun - and MadLax should be able to do this over time. But winning teams have no bearing on individual girls being recruited and but if girls already play for a top high school that has a pipeline to colleges, then club isn't as critical. Time will tell whether they can put together a strong program but I wouldn't assume they won't. A few years ago Rebels was just starting and MC Elite was pretty much just Rockville Rec.
Yes but, those clubs didn't have a jacka$$ as an owner.
Guess you haven't met Mike Haight.
