NP here. I don’t “care” really, but I do generally assume that person is too shallow/status conscious to ever be a close friend of mine. I have lots of acquaintances like this. We run in the same circles (school, sports) and are friendly to each other, but they are not “my people.”[/quote]

Nope, I’m friends with people who don’t feel the need to pay extra for external badges that serve no other purpose than to indiciate the price of an item, not just cars. It’s ok if you don’t understand.
