I read the book in HS and then ended up reading several other Margaret Atwood books in college. Her later work is superior and has matured but Handmaids Tale is perfect for a modern day drama. The parallels are obvious to most, and it’s action heavy. I like the show and will continue watching it until it ends (I predict season 4 and then gone). This season has been heavy handed but enjoyable. It’s harder to watch than season 1 and I didn’t like episode 3 but I have high hopes it will improve. I’m a lesbian with two kids, DW and I have a son around the same age as Emily’s son I’m the airport scene. We had to pause and take breathers often. I have a huge fear of getting separated by my family during a national crisis. DW and I did a lot to make sure we were as legally protected as possibly if shit hits the fan. Married in a true blue state, reciprocal IVF, gave birth in state that allows both names on birth certificate and did sexond parent adoptions. Terrifying to know the child I gave birth to could not be taken away. I think this show is especially terrifying for marginalized people, who realize this could happen. It has happened to a lot of us. I wish they’d cover more race issue, so many questions the book never answers. I wonder how closely MA is working with production?
