All of the families IB for great schools who either do not have or can’t get into PK3/4 and are crying about the unfairness of it all need to get some perspective. Having a quality k-12 path ahead of you is 100X more important than either paying for or driving to free preschool. You don’t see this now because your child is young, but trust us old timers when we tell you to can it. You are in a position of great privilege.
Yeah, those parents sticking it out in Shaw with their million dollar rowhomes and sending their kids to private are really underprivileged...
You do realiz that most of us EOTP are not in this position, right? The median HOUSEHOLD income in DC is 75K a year.
So move to a condo? Otherwise what are you going to do?
Don’t worry about me. I’ll figure out something. But if you think most people in this city can afford private easily you are truly out of touch.
I mean you're making a lot of assumptions about me, but okay. Most of the EOTP families I know could afford to move WOTP but don't because they think it's too sleepy over here. Annoying to then listen to them complain about the lottery.
wrong. I also dont believe you live Eotp. I actually do live here and send my kid to our IB even though I dont want to. Not all of us can afford a million dollar plus shitty house in AU park or further and the cost of an additional car for community purposes.
I don't think the PP was saying that she lived EOTP. Her point (with which I agree) is simply that there isn't any difference between the (now quite numerous) UMC families EOTP and those WOTP. The median HHI of 75K is due to the legacy population, not the gentrifiers. I'm not saying that Ward 3 residents aren't privileged with regard to schools, but the fact is that many EOTP parents (especially those most vocal on this forum) could afford to live WOTP, just in a shittier house and with less urban flair.
