University of SaintvThomas in St. Paul, MN
Curious for the reasoning behind this suggestion. I’m from Wisconsin and this was generally seen as a place where wealthy/preppy kids from Catholic high schools went- but maybe it’s changed since I graduated from HS in 1990!!![/quote. My sweet DD who is a very solid student academically is a student there and she loves it. We are from Chicago and she wanted a bit of distance from home. She has met a really strong group of friends and is very comfortable at St. Thomas. We happen to be Catholic but about half of her friends are not. When she first got up to the Twin Cities, she was floored by how much nicer people were than in Chicago. This is from a kid who never had trouble fitting in high school but genuinely noticed a significant difference. She claims the kids are more sincere, less sarcastic. There are many smaller schools in Minnesota- Macalester, Concordia, St. Kate’s, Gustavus, St. Olaf, St. Mary’s, St. Ben’s. FWIW- my DD graduated with honors from a large, top ranked high school and is finding the classes challenging plus she received a $28k in merit aid. Just my two cents.
