As someone who considers herself a pragmatic centrist without any strong ideology one way or another but generally supportive of liberalism and who also follows world affairs and issues, I can tell most of the comments on this thread say more about the poster than the actual subject. But that's typical of the political forum, unfortunately. The accounts of Obama as told by Hilton have been quietly said by a variety of people over the years and not just Britain's David Cameron. And I must be honest here, while I admired Obama greatly at the onset, as time went on I have come to believe he genuinely is not as bright or intelligent as he thinks he is and that has been to the detriment of his presidency. He is an intelligent man, make no mistakes about that, but not a genius. Unfortunately, he was encircled by the cult of Obama and that allowed him to think himself greater than he really was. This could explain his reluctance to get dirty and fight political battles. Obamacare was created and won by the Democrats on congress (and they got walloped for it). Beyond that his presidency has been mostly speeches filled with platitudes and not much else. I actually even remember Michelle Obama at various points in the 2008 campaign being amazed by some of thing things being said about Obama and once or twice saying, err...no, he's not that special, so in retrospect I am not surprised. Obama is a vastly better man than Donald Trump ever will be, but that doesn't preclude he is simply not as great or intelligent or wise as he likely thought himself to be and the cult of Obama allowed him to hide from the reality. It's not surprising other world leaders found him frustrating and arrogant. I have read various articles from established figures commenting that Obama loves nothing more than to be at a table and talking about problems and ideological issues, but he does all the talking and doesn't seem receptive to other ideas and perspectives, and most of all, rarely proposes solutions. That could be the consequence of the euphoria that surrounded him so early on, preventing him from seeing his own limits and failings and that certainly did not help his presidency. It may be a problem that stems back to his days as a lecturer, where his job was to lecture and the students listened.
I generally agree: i.e., Obama is very smart, but likely not as smart as he thinks he is. That same criticism (not as smart or effective as you think you are) applies to most people, and especially to most powerful people I've known. I don't get the sense that Obama was any more or less guilty of that sin than anyone else in a similar position. I do get the sense that Cameron's ex-deputy who made this comment was looking to grind a political axe, so I don't put much stock in what he said about Cameron's feelings. I also suspect that Cameron himself is not immune to these same feelings of believing he's smarter and more effective than reality suggests, so to the extent he actually was feeling annoyed with Obama, it may well have risen from frustration that he himself was being overshadowed (i.e., Cameron's own pride and feeling that he was smarter than he really is).
