I bet we get 25% of our sales for just "showing up" like responding to inquiries same-day. Then if we promise something to a customer on a certain date, we always deliver. That's almost all it takes -- just don't miss deadlines and deliver as promised.

My guess is people like OP who let important details in life like a driver's license renewal lapse are not destined to run a successful business.

We live in MD and you are mailed and emailed a renewal notice 2-3 months in advance, so it's hardly like this came as a surprise.[/quote]
