Atlantis? So overrated and overpriced.
Have you been? My kids beg after each commercial they see on it.
I have. Food poisoning everywhere. Staff is apathetic and theft is rampant. Never again
OP I have been and wouldn't necessarily paint a dismal picture - if you want an all-inclusive style resort type vacation it is nice. The food is certainly overpriced and was nothing to write home about, but none of us got food poisoning. The rooms are nice - again, probably not the luxury you'd hope for with that price but that's how it goes with tourist destinations. The beach area itself is rather small, but obviously the water is pretty...it's your typical Caribbean beach experience (clear water, no real waves, warm). You can't really walk on the beach or anything (as in, go for a walk on the beach). The pool area is cool and obviously lots of fun for kids - there are multiple BIG water slides and a lazy river which is not particularly lazy. Both of those details to say I don't know that I'd go until my youngest was 7/8 or so, and a strong swimmer too. In the pool area there are lots of places to explore; little pools with turtles, stingrays, etc. Agree that the crowd in the pool area tends towards the type of people you'd see at 6 flags, not that there's anything wrong with that. The dolphin "experience" (which you kind of have to do if you're there, I guess) is pretty much an overrated, expensive photo op. I would agree that the staff is apathetic as compared to other vacation places I've been in the Caribbean, but did not experience any theft. All in all, I would agree with the assessment that if you're looking for a beach vacation in march or April, and have elementary school kids, it's fun. But wouldn't be my choice for a summer beach vacation. I also feel like, having been there once, I don't have a burning desire to go back. Whereas MV our family looks forward to every year, we have all our little traditions and feel like there's so much to do there.
Haha this sounds like an overpriced nightmare!
I thought Atlantis had something for everyone. We stayed in a suite at the Cove. I'm a hotel snob and thought the Cove suite was fantastic. Cove and Reef share a private pool and beach area that only guests staying in those hotels have access to. My kids did the little squirts program where they got to feed sharks and stingrays. It was not all inclusive, which I personally prefer. I don't mind paying extra for better food. We had a mix of expensive and casual dining. Nobu was good. Can't remember the other restaurant names but I was pleasantly surprised that the food was actually decent. My kids liked going to the free movie theater and doing the crafts around the resort. We took daily stroller walks around the Dig Aquarium. Spa was great. We'd get starbucks and hang out in the waterpark area but could retreat to our private quite beach. You don't go to Atlantis for culture but it is a lot of fun. I thought it was a perfect family vacation. We travel often, maybe 10 times per year. We enjoy Atlantis and Disney. We also do Italy, France, Iceland, Japan, etc. Atlantis was probably the absolute easiest where everyone had a good time. We took our kids to Monte Carlo and the Amalfi Coast. They enjoyed Atlantis a lot more. We are going to Maine at the end of the month too.
