There are of course exceptions, but being "thin" is not really a desirable attribute for most AA woman.  I really don't think most black middle-aged women are looking to their white counterparts for their aesthetic goals.  Many I know (mostly well-educated, middle/upper middle class) exercise and try to maintain a healthy diet, but "thin" is not the goal.

I say this as a black woman who is a size 0-2.  My husband is black, but luckily likes petite women. :)
