Before he worked there, he owned restaurants and did quite well, but that is hard, backbreaking work and though I sometimes encourage him to do that again (for the freedom it would give him and possible more money), I'm not sure it's what would be best for our family. 
So, I don't have any answers really, OP. Just know you're not alone.
