Why do Israel and the West Bank excite people so much? I find it fascinating, but I wonder about others.
I have always wondered why American Jews care so much about Israel and put its interests ahead of the US's. Unless you are Israeli, America should be your primary concern.
it's literally the only group that does this. Blacks don't put random african countries aims and goals ahead of the us. japanese americans certainly don't. chinese americans don't. A VERY small subgroup of indian americans do (usually much older and came in the 65-80's wave but it is a tiny group. european-americans (italian-americans, polish-americans, irish-americans, etc) don't. I challenge jewish americans to name me another ethnicity that acts this way with the same frequency and magnitude that jews do.
Wow, I am uncertain where to start. First of all, I am an American Jew. Meaning, American first, Jewish second. I am very active in the Jewish community here and the vast majority of people in my orbit are the same. As such, America comes first, not Israel. Many (but not all) Jews DO have an interest in the existence and security of Israel. Why? Because we as a group have been persecuted for thousands of years. Literally. Half of our population was wiped off of the map by the Nazis. If history teaches us anything, it is that we are doomed to repeat. Thus, if Jews are persecuted yet again, we have a place to go where it is safe to exist as a Jew. All of my Jewish friends want the settlements to stop and for there to be a 2-state solution. Hope that clears up some of the gross misconceptions that were presented in the PPs.
