When schools are underenrolled--and there are lots of kids leaving those schools--just maybe, the School Board should look at why. The answer is not moving more affluent neighborhoods in to "up" the scores. The answer is working to bring the students who are there up to speed and to stop the egress of students due to pupil placement. In the discussion of Herndon kids going to South Lakes--it may not just be that they want to get out of Herndon--it may be that they want to stay with their friends at Hughes. Eliminating AAP centers could be a first step. Putting full AP in ALL schools would also be a first step.
Back in 2018/2019 it was said in work sessions that they were going to have "courageous conversations" about why there was flight from certain schools. It's been nearly 8 years.
Lol. Well, they can’t force people to buy homes in certain areas. Regarding programming and the ever present IB>AP transfers … they are too proud, arrogant, and out of touch to admit that IB is generally less desirable and should be relegated to a small number of opt-in sites as a magnet program. However the cynical part of me says that they know that transferring for elementary and middle AAP, and then HS AP, is how people get out of certain schools and they are loathe to mess with the status quo.
