[/quote] There's a couple of spot memories I have from the 80s, and at the same time I was reading Tale of Two Cities. Both on some news program. One was showing the lavish scale of entertaining in DC where the lobbying and political elite were involved. The other was a couple of expat businessmen in Guatemala sipping G&Ts by a pool and talking about how great business was without pesky rules and regs. There are places where the best neighborhoods a century ago are now low-rent, people assume it can't happen to a country like the US. I think it requires more deliberate dismantling of society than in other places, but I can see it happening. [/quote]
