It's caught in the crossfire for two reasons: (1) it's an attendance island now at Longfellow/McLean and (2) Graham Road ES currently lies within the Timber Lane boundary south of Route 29. The BRAC slides had them both keeping Timber Lane north of Route 29 at Longfellow/McLean, except for the area off Route 29 west of Hollywood Road, which they were proposing to move to Kilmer but keep at McLean. And then they had Timber Lane south of Route 29 moving to Longfellow but not McLean. The proposals required them to move part of Shrevewood from Marshall to McLean to bridge the island. The proposals in the tool deal with some of the obvious flaws. They don't have kids going to Kilmer and then McLean any longer, or kids going to Longfellow and then Falls Church. By any reasonable measure, those are improvements. But they now propose to move all of Timber Lane north of Route 29 to Jackson/Falls Church, except for the area west of Hollywood Road, which they'd continue to move to Kilmer, but then also move to Marshall rather than keep it at McLean. So if you're talking about Timber Lane north of Route 29, there are areas they'd move from Longfellow/McLean to both Kilmer/Marshall and Jackson/Falls Church. I don't see them backing off quickly from the proposal to send the area west of Hollywood Road to Shrevewood/Kilmer/Marshall, because it's tied to their proposed solution to Graham Road, which hasn't changed and involves changing the boundaries of four elementary schools (Graham Road, Pine Spring, Shrevewood, and Timber Lane). Move that area back to Timber Lane, and Timber Lane is seriously overcrowded with the changes south of Route 29. Move it to Shrevewood, and keep it at Longfellow/McLean, and they've created a new attendance island unless they move the rest of Timber Lane north of Route 29 back to Longfellow/McLean. As to whether they might revert to keeping the rest of Timber Lane at Longfellow/McLean, that's possible. That's tied less to Graham Road, and relates more to whether they want to eliminate or bridge the current attendance island, and whether they want to take advantage of the Falls Church expansion to 2500 seats. Right now, moving that part of Timber Lane to Falls Church is the only proposal they have to move anything into Falls Church, and it won't push Jackson over 105%, either. If they do keep most of Timber Lane north of Route 29 at Longfellow/McLean, they'll need to move part of Shrevewood to Longfellow/McLean, unless they abandon the idea of eliminating attendance islands, and they'll need to reverse other proposed changes such as making Lemon Road feed entirely to Longfellow/McLean (although I'd also expect them after further review to keep the part of Lemon Road that's on the Marshall side of Route 7 there, since it's so close to GCM). Moving this part of Timber Lane to Marshall rather than Falls Church is a possibility if the parents from the area lobby heavily for that as an alternative. In the mid-1980s, the Shouse Village neighborhood in Vienna was assigned to Langley (as it is now). Langley got overcrowded and FCPS staff proposed moving it to Marshall. The parents got them to move it to McLean instead, where it stayed until 2021. With other changes they are considering for Marshall, it looks like Marshall would have the space, so the issue is more whether Kilmer (which is overcrowded) would have space. This alternative would not take advantage of the additional seats at Falls Church, but they aren't proposing to do anything to move kids into expanded Herndon right now, either. So it's not like they have a consistent approach to making sure they are doing something at every high school that's been expanded recently to take advantage of additional seats. [b]TLDR version - sure, everything is going to remain in play for months, and it's possible they could revert to keeping most of Timber Lane north of Route 29 at Longfellow/McLean or entertain requests to move to Kilmer/Marshall instead. Area west of Hollywood Road is likely to move to Shrevewood since they've boxed themselves into making other changes to Timber Lane's boundaries south of Route 29 that will increase Timber Lane's enrollment.
