I try to push myself when these come up for me, but one I really struggle with is bad tattoos. ESP leg (any gender), sleeve (women), neck or face. I cannot understand the decision making framework that resulted in these existing for people unless maybe they have trauma?
I hear you OP. I think of myself as not snobby and will talk to just about anyone. I realize that many of my advantages in life are sheer good luck and look for the best in people. However when I see intelligent women using expensive designer hand bags, I struggle to not think less of them (designer brands in general). For example, recently I saw a mature Muslim woman wearing a cute, modern (long pants and long dress shirt in bright colors with a pretty head cover) and was admiring how she adapted her culture to modern life while retaining comfort and modesty - until I saw her very expensive designer hand bag. For me it ruined the look. Re: your example - I am fine with tattoos on younger people into middle age but am repelled by many of them on older people (and older folks who flaunt them on saggy skin). Apparently I am visually ageist even though I am rather long in the tooth myself. I am not proud of this prejudice and should be glad when older people are comfortable in their own skins . It is a provocative question OP.
