First, it's highly unlikely that DP originated the idea or made that decision to fire Urick. I would guess that as far as Danny is concerned a couple of third place finishes in the IAC by the lacrosse program is not that big of a problem. Why go to the trouble of firing a guy and creating all that upset and the work required to hire a new guy? Especially with football season starting.

So, the direction had to come from higher up in the organization.

Second, DP has his own base of supporters some of which have been major donors to the school. Firing a lacrosse coach is one thing. Replacing an "connected" alum with very long tenure is yet another.

The world of both public and private education moves at a glacial pace. Some of this is because they hate change and value collegiality within their closed community. Some of it is because they know the current set of parents, who tend to make the most noise, will be moving on in a year or two. Easier to promise, procrastinate and wait than to make decisions that create a lot of work.[/quote]
