The author of this “Hilgartner to GP” scam ought to be teaching a class in Trolling. (I’m assuming this is BS because no one has confirmed it, it’s almost the start of school, and these schools historically can’t keep anything a secret.)

First, the perpetrator had to select a forum where people are emotionally invested and that emotion could overcome logic.
Second, the subject had to be something that a percentage of the audience is thrilled with and the rest are dreading. In spite of how improbable it is and the total lack of substantiation, they are caught up in the remote possibility it might be true.

The master stroke was a link to what would be a credible source if it was true. Those who clicked on the link could find nothing and started assuming it was a bad link and not a clever head fake.

When school starts without an announcement, at least some on here will experience the same feeling one of the rockfish in the Bay feels when themselves being pulled from the water and put into a net.

Hats off to our troller for 1.) Coming up with this outlandish idea and 2.) Knowing the audience and how they would react.
