Don't you think Putin knows that this move is something his economy can't fund or supply?  That pulling out the men from the outer regions will leave them non-productive for the agrarian economy?  That mechanics, doctors, university students are needed to keep the economy going?  This move has doomed Russia's economy and will cause long-term, widespread hardship, and the Russian's know it.

If I were to write a Tom Clancy movie script, it would probably go like this:

My guess is that preparations will take at least 6-weeks, another four to redeploy forces and do dry runs.  Call it beginning of November as probably the earliest that something really bad could happen?  Maybe over Christmas to make it worse?

If it were me, the FBI needs to round up and arrest all possible foreign agents.  Anyone talking them out of it ("no we need to watch them so they can lead us to higher level agents and we can break the whole network") is probably under influence themselves.

I would issue new orders to the U.S. Navy and Air Force and have the President announce that due to Russian nuclear threats, the U.S. must take them seriously.  All Russian aircraft are banned from U.S. airspace, and will be treated as having hostile intent (and then make no further public comments or answer press questions - which the Russians will do to probe our actions).  This means the U.S. will no longer tolerate airspace violations and any military aircraft or warship approaching within (nuclear weapons range) will be considered a threat to national security and dealt with accordingly.

Yes.  There will be intentional provocations, but let's face it - the Russian Government lies anyway.
