I love how no one has brought up that Manchin offered a $1.8B counteroffer with - 10-year funded Pre-K, Climate, and subsidized ACA. The White House didn't agree to it, therefore the BBB was dead. End of. [twitter]https://twitter.com/JStein_WaPo/status/1473003746510745602[/twitter] Maybe the White House should have been working through the night lining up support in both chambers of Congress instead of sniping via surrogates on national TV? Manchin’s private proposal to the White House — the details of which have not been previously reported — was made just days before a spectacular public collapse in negotiations between the White House and the senator, marked by bitter and personal recriminations that left the status of the talks unclear. The White House was weighing how to respond to Manchin’s proposal last week when on Sunday he told Fox News that he would be unable to support the current version of Democrats’ Build Back Better agenda.
I think it's completely sick that West Virginia has one of the nation's highest rates of child poverty yet Manchin turned his back on and spat on those WV families in need. He is truly despicable and YES, he DOES work against his constituents' interests.
Yawn. That statement means nothing. You know why? There are no children in West Virginia. It has one of the LOWEST number of children per population in the entire country and one of the fewest in the nation overall. So when Manchin says his constituents don't care? THEY REALLY DON'T CARE about the BBB bill. Because let's be honest what does it do for anyone who doesn't have children? Out of 50 states, West Virginia (excluding the District of Columbia) is #40 for number of children under the age of 5. They have 95,000 total. Out of 50 states, West Virginia (excluding the District of Columbia) also ranks #40 for number of children under the age of 18. They have 364,000 total. That's out of a total population exceeding 1,800,000 million. They don't f**king care. https://www.childrensdefense.org/policy/resources/soac-2020-child-population-tables/ Citation: Children's Defense Fund - Table 1: Child Population by Age and Race/Ethnicity, 2018 If you're curious California, Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, New York, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennesse, and Washington have the most kids overall.
Wow. So what children WV has, live in poverty, die early (infant mortality), and if they survive are doomed to fail in life (low educational achievement rates, far less likely to have a business that succeeds, far less likely to get rich). And apparently that's how they like it. That's what they keep voting for. Yeah, there's something wrong with West Virginians.
