Not a Bullis supporter at all or even root for the IAC as a collective, but I find it absurd the inability for any individual that supports a school in the IAC to give any respect, compliment or credit to any other school in that conference, no matter how great the accomplishment. I always hear how fans of universities root for their “conference” if their school isn’t in the final; think NCAA basketball tournament. Or news outlets announce records by conference in ncaa bowl season, as another example. Not so with this IAC conference. I would think Bullis winning those games would be considered a feather in the cap of the conference, as the most recent example? Another example was the undefeated Landon team of 2017; no credit or hint of Conference pride? The vitriol just amazes me. I was hoping for different as these are kids playing as hard as they know how and the posters are supposed to be adults? Guess not. I do love this sport; just wish it was different in DC with all those involved. Count me as one old guy that his time has passed. Good bye to the helicopter and/or “has been/never was” parents. I wish you the best with the lessons you are teaching your children.
You age has nothing to do with this phenomenon as there was no Golden Age of warmer relationships between the schools. As a long time IAC-watcher I can assure you that there has never been any "IAC Pride" or unity or anything like that ever. This pre-dates Helicopter parents by many, many years. "Vitriol" is a word you could use. Near total "Antipathy" would be a very accurate description of the Prep - Landon relationship for decades. About the best you'll get is indifference. What surprises me is that new people come along and don't understand the history.
Except that the IAC has always been considered the Ivy league of local high school conferences.
By whom? When Sidwell left, the academic reputation took a hit. I don't know what has happened at Bullis recently, but I don't think anyone in the past thought it was a top academic school. St Stephens & St Agnes has never been an academic powerhouse. Nor has Episcopal. Nice schools, just not academically elite. Prep serves a community and that community is represented by a range of students, some very good and some average. I think the MAC is as strong academically.
