Her mom was an alcoholic who chose men over her daughter, even when Kail begged for attention, and her father was non-existent. In her 16&p episode, Kail went to see him in Texas and it was painful to watch. No mention of him since. Jo's parents were surrogate parents for a time, but their loyalty was obviously divided. Kail has never had anyone 100% on her side always, and I think that really shows in her inability to demonstrate empathy. I think she's an amazing one-on-one parent to Isaac (and Lincoln) given the absence of models. But I agree she does make some terrible decisions, such as jumping into the marriage with Javi.[/quote]
