What if they moved IB to the Billy Buck site?
I believe someone upthread mentioned that IB is woven into the fabric of WL in a way that would make it difficult to move.
All I think that means is some people worry W-L's test scores will decline if it loses IB transfer students from Yorktown and Wakefield.
Or it could be a legitimate observation.
Doubt it. There's nothing about IB that can't be unwoven from a school, particularly one that already has AP.
While I don't doubt it could be unwoven, why don't we brainstorm ideas that would have more people moving between the three schools voluntarily. What would draw higher SES students to Wakefield? We have AP and Spanish Immersion already, and that doesn't seem to be a huge draw. What other lottery program could we put at Wakefield that would be a draw, the way IB is for W-L. STEM? Or STEAM? Performing Arts? World Languages?
Honestly I doubt anyting would in the numbers you describe. You need to have less poverty at that school and most people prefer being close to their school. This isn't saying we shouldnt move some poorer students to other schools (assuming they want to be commuting further) like curent yor ktown island kids do. We are zoned for WL now and if ib moved to yorktown I doubt I would enc our age my kids to go there not when there are ap classes. A TJ has diversity but it selects for those students with top grades and scores. The stigma in arlington is that farms kids have lower grades/scores on average so that prejudices parents against sending their kids to schools with high farms rates.
