Yes. But there aren't many September birthdays when you figure there are 11 other months. Our DC is late September. We decided to have her start KG when she was 5 not 4. Hasn't been an issue as the one of her classmates turned 6 on October 1 of KG and the June baby also turned 6 during KG! Si, they all began KG at 5!!!!
Birthdays are not arranged evenly through all 12 months. August and September are the most common birth months, usually. http://www.medicaldaily.com/pulse/happy-birthday-science-explains-why-september-16-most-common-birthday-america-352918
Maybe there was some sense to the old late fall cut offs. Births are disproportionately concentratef in July thru September. Why not have the most clustered births as a cohort? It gave the teachers a concentrated core of similar birth dates. Hmm.
Kids don't necessarily have the same maturity levels just because they are born within the same few weeks or months. Kids born even on the same day can have wildly different maturity levels. Parents just have to do what's right for their own kids, since every child is different.
This. Our DD and her friend have the exact same fall birthday. Ours started school on time at 4 and the friend was redshirted. Both are out of HS now and it was the right decision for each girl. Ours would have been miserable if she had been redshirted and her friend would have struggled greatly if she had started on time.
