I typed out my list, read it, felt really lousy about myself, and deleted it.
May the force be with you!
Now I want to know what your list was. Probably looks a lot like mine.
I've been struggling to think of anything I oppose that I won't cop to. I can be pretty frank! There are opinions I wouldn't volunteer to certain individuals, i.e. I wouldn't state that I hate tattoos in front of someone with a tattoo because that would be rude, like saying you don't like a certain haircut in front of someone with that haircut. And it's a matter of taste, so why say it? But if someone with a tattoo asked if I liked tattoos, I'd have no problem telling them and no and why not. I guess two things: People not keeping up on current events. I don't think they need to follow the news religiously, but I do think that when you live in democracy, you have an obligation to have some understanding of politics and policy, and how the blasted government works. If you're not a reasonably informed voter, you're a free rider. Speaking ill of friends. If it's about someone I know, I will defend or otherwise gently suggest that I don't think it's okay to do that. If it's about someone I don't know, I won't say anything, but I will think less of the speaker and it will definitely diminish our friendship. People can discuss something negative about a mutual friend out of concern or because they're trying to figure out how to deal with it, but I think in those conversations you can really feel if it crosses the line into something gossipy or disrespectful.
