The AMA advocates increased scholarships to foreigners attending US medical schools. This is a resolution passed at their June 2025 House of Delegates meeting. Not for US citizens. For foreigners That is why we are broken
foreigners are willing to go to podunk red areas and serve the communities there because "real Americans" want to be in cities. Without those foriegners getting AMA grants, most of the rural, red state hospitals would be operating without doctors.
There is wholesale discrimination against Americans, especially white men, and you say we need foreigners? The nerve!
DP. Okay, so rural folks should have to drive an hour to a hospital? Fine. White MAGA men are NOT studying science. They are eschewing colleges because Trump and co are vilifying them. When Trump tells his base it's patriotic to study math and science, then you will have a case.
Rural white men don’t have access to quality education so of course they don’t pursue academics.
the idea that rural white men are enduring some kind of special suffering and discrimination right now is beyond ludicrous. OMFG. Rural white men and women are why this country is falling apart. Tons of people have REALLY challenging lives and don't turn to hatred and bigotry. Buh bye.
+1 They feel they are entitled to stay put and just reap all sorts of benefits because they are who they are. It's called study hard and go away to a good school like the rest of us. You don't get special treatment because you're stubborn and entitled.
Yup. Remember when Hillary was trying to create job training in coal mining country. There was one dad who refused to entertain that his kid would learn car computer engineering to take a job in Detroit because he'd have to move away from home in Appalachia. So, he guilted his son until he took a coal mining job like dad. The "stick your neck out is bad" philosophy in many poor, rural cultures is a huge, unaddressed issue. Immigrants work hard, and will move. A lot of MAGA don't like their kind trying to get ahead.
This. The MAGAs in my family are the ones who didn't take risks and pick up and move. They were told NOT go away to college (oh my god, you'll turn into a hippie!!!) so they stayed close to home and took low-level manual labor-type jobs. They never lived on their own, never paid rent for the own apartment, just lived at home until they got married, then moved-- but not too far away, and only to places that were familiar to their parents. Now they're all MAGA, angry at everyone but themselves, mocking their "pompous" cousins who did finish college and move out of the old neighborhood for white collar jobs (and their kids all did extremely well in life as a result). That's the little secret with MAGA-- they're scared of change and taking risk and get pissy when they realize others stepped up, took risks, didn't fear change, and reaped rewards for it. It's ultimately about control and making sure your kids don't change and become someone you can no longer control-- and god forbid they do change? "Huh, you think you're better than us, going to that Commie school that turned you into someone else who doesn't go to church. We should never have let you go in the first place, look at you all hoity toity now, just watch, you'll slip and fall and need us and Jesus again. Ha!!"
You don’t seem to understand that not everyone acts the same as your own family. People migrate or not due to many many reasons that you are not able to deduce from the top of your mind. Try to humble yourself because nothing is worse than a person who escaped poverty but then looks down on those who were not so fortunate. BTW you do seem elitist and so if your old family and friends from before your move are giving you those comments or vibes then they are actually being pretty astute and accurately labeling your attitude as “better than”. It’s obvious.
Don’t be like JD Vance.
It’s not about escaping poverty, it’s about holding yourself and even your own kids back and then trying to blame minorities and immigrants— just like my MAGA relatives do. No one told them to drop out of college, no one stopped them from applying for better jobs, no one stopped them from moving to a lower cost of living city with new opportunities. They were their own worst enemies and now pull the “woe is me I’m a white Christian male so I deserve all the breaks in the world” crap.
