He became a target when he published a paper that showed that police did not shoot black men more frequently than they shot white men.

This was not the result he expected.  He was advised not to publish the results, he did so anyway and it undermined BLMs argument.  His paper also showed that cops engaged in police brutality disproportionately against black men, particularly young black men.

He was punished by Claudine Gay for being an unloyal black academic.[/quote]
