Now that we’re passed winter break and preseason training he started in ernest - what are the expectations for freshman to make varsity. At my son’s high level public it looks like there is only room for 1 or 2 freshmen. I think my son is in the running but it might be better for him to just play at JV and be a contributor rather than be a backup on V.
we will have 2 freshmen on varsity and both will be starting. One is absolutely good enough to play in college and talking to his parents who are very much so academically focused they put education first. I’m guessing this kid will one day have a lot of fun playing club lacrosse.
Any half way decent club freshman should be starting on almost every varsity public school team in this area.
i can’t speak to public. My kid is private and it’s quite unusual that we will have 2 freshmen starters. These boys are also gigantic. They certainly don’t look like freshman and the one i mentioned is a true 28.
Let's all keep in mind that all "privates" are not equal. With the exception of SJC, GP, Landon and Gonzaga, playing and even starting as a freshman is not totally unusual. It's certainly an accomplishment and something every kid should be proud of, but it does not mean they are the next Connor Shellenberger or destined for D1 greatness (or D1 at all). Likewise, playing JV your freshman year (at any private or public) does not mean the chance of playing D1 is not in your future.
