Because the Queen was already dead and they had just dropped the children off for the first day of school. She needed to be there to pick them up and be with them for all of the stuff that is about to follow. With the exception of William and Harry - who were/were now about to be the children of a King — no other grandchildren or great-grandchildren were there. It’s not nefarious - this is part of a very-long planned out national event which it sounds like moved very quickly and didn’t have as much notice as people had presumed would happen.[/quote]

If your great/grandmother dies or is dying, no one I know would send the kids to school anyway. Seems cold especially when the news would have broken out among their classmates (George is 9) with phones. The fact that she then waited all day to do a pap school run? It’s weird. [/quote]

If the kids weren’t going to travel, there’s no reason to go get them from the first day of school. I’m sure whatever school they go to is able to handle privacy and they wouldn’t have heard any information ( plus the news that the Queen was seriously ill wasn’t public until the afternoon UK time).[/quote]
