They don’t generally use subpoenas for criminal cases for chain of custody reasons, among others. Plus, also why would they need a subpoena for him to voluntarily turn stuff over? If he was willing to give it all back, a warrant would not have been necessary. The whole thing is particularly ridiculous given that the only thing that it appears they “seized” was documents that belong to the government that he had no legal right to have in his residence.
