I have the same questions as the PPs: Why do all these chubby people think they're not at risk for a serious case of Covid?
I have a very large coworker. You better believe he was super careful all last year and was first in line for the vaccine. Obesity has nothing to do with IQ and ability to read data.
I’m the PP that’s being referenced with regard to obese people not being careful and I’m obese. I don’t remember when in the pandemic it became clear that obese people were at greater risk of bad complications, but it’s been a while and I’ve been super careful (vaccinated as soon as my age group was eligible, masking, not eating out, no “fun” trips, etc). I just don’t get these people who, no matter what lies they want to believe, must know on some level that this is dangerous, especially for big people.
My obese Alabama Trump-loving cousins are anti-mask and anti-vax. They also don't think they are fat (they weigh 300lbs+). They relayed how offensive it was that their doctor mentioned their high weight. One of the ways I explain their behavior to myself is that everyone around them is the same - very large, Trump-loving Covid-deniers. So in their world, they are perfectly normal. Either that or they are in deep denial or really ignorant. Could be a combination. I love them anyway, and I hope for the best.
We might be related, PP, because I also have obese Alabama Trump-loving cousins. The mom/grandma even died of Covid last winter, and one of her sons was hospitalized. A couple of the women are nurses and have been vaccinated, and from what I can tell from social media there seems to be some kind of falling out between them and guys who are still anti-vax, anti-mask, anti-Fauci, etc. I hope for the best too, but they're so brainwashed it's just sad.
