I believe that the Russians have played a significant role in encouraging polarization through their use of Facebook and other social media.
That’s true.
Yup. Aren't Russians behind Brexit and a lot of anti-vaxx movements?
I believe this, but why? What’s the goal?
Destabilization through division, distrust, and distraction. Lots of uncooperative tiny groups are, at best, ineffectual. Arguing among them prevents anybody from making progress. At worst those groups can be manipulated or taken over, and then you've got an enemy inside your house instead of across the ocean. Russia is behind the "secession" movements to divide California and other states, for the same reason. If Zuckerberg had any moral compass at all, he'd have shut down facebook a long time ago.
+1.
