There was historically some deference to what a local School Board members wanted with respect to kids and schools in their district when it came to boundaries, but that deference wasn't always paid (for example, the School Board redistricted Annandale in 2011 over the objections of the then-Mason District member and eliminated a Woodson attendance island a couple of years later over the objections of the then-Braddock District member) and Meren doesn't have much influence on the current Board. She can gather anecdotes and then complain about what Reid recommends or the majority on the Board approve, but the ruling bloc (Sandy Anderson, Dannan, Dixit, Frisch, Lady, McDaniel, St. John-Cunning) can and will ignore her if they choose.
Having been through a redistricting where our district SB member preferred moving my community over another one, I recommend this: contact all school board members and state very clearly why it is best for you to go there. Give objective and specific reasons. Ultimately, the SB went with our argument over the one our district SB member supported. But, our argument was the more valid one. We gave specific reasons that were not based on emotion. But, generally the district SB member calls the shots. Meren may argue for something out of the ordinary. No clue what that would be. She should have jumped on board earlier and argued for Crossfield. Maybe, Seema doesn't want to offend Crossfield/Oakton constituents. What she needs to remember is that Centreville, Chantilly, Westfield, and Skyview are all her schools that her constuents attend. It is her job to take care of all of them appropriately while keeping constituents happy.
