The judge's decision was based on a Gang Field Interview Sheet from the Prince George's County Police Department, which cited Abrego Garcia's clothing (a Chicago Bulls hat and a hoodie) and information from a "past, proven, and reliable" confidential informant who alleged he was a member of MS-13’s Western clique with the rank of "chequeo." The judge acknowledged skepticism about the clothing as evidence of gang affiliation but found the confidential informant's information sufficient to support the gang membership claim.
