DD reported bathrooms in her HS are still a disaster this school year.
Who is monitoring bathrooms if MCPS plan is to "not lock bathrooms this year?" Did they hire bathroom monitors this year? Didn't hear about those not did we hear how they are funding any extra monitors.
My strong preference as a parent is to keep bathroom unlocked even if there is no monitoring. My kid can walk through the crowd of druggies to use the bathroom—that’s way better than not being able to use the bathroom! He reports that they are very polite and move aside to let people get to the urinal. Last year was a disaster because you never knew which bathrooms were unlocked in a given day — one time he walked around the school for 15-20 minutes and went to four bathrooms before finding one that was unlocked. My other kid used to just leave school and go to a fast food restaurant because it was easier than trying to find an unlocked bathroom. The idea of locking bathrooms is r ridiculous — it’s like saying we’re going to shut down Metro because someone got mugged on it. You don’t close essential services just because bad things sometimes happen there.
MCPS needs to hire more secuirty to monitor the halls and bathroom and expell the kids who are selling drugs and a threat to others.
Sure, but in the meantime , let kids pee/poop/change their tampon. I’m also irritated by all the teachers that harass kids who ask to go to the bathroom. I do a lot of volunteer work with kid and my rule is always “if you have to use the bathroom, you should go to the bathroom.” I feel like that’s a really good rule for life. Wear comfortable shoes, be kind to others, and use the bathroom when you need it are my three leading principles for life.
If I had a girl I'd keep them home a day or two a month.
