Nope. He had already done his homework and knew there were some incredibly qualified black women judges. KBJ runs circles around Thomas and ACB in terms of objective, meritocratic standards.

I have a different definition of token.  I think it is someone chosen for their membership in a particular group but with the intent that it not actually change anything in favor of that group.  Eg, a women chosen for an all male board of directors who is plainly selected because she will not challenge misogyny or advocate for greater female representation is a token female on the board.  By that definition, CT is the token, not KBJ or TM (although admittedly race was a factor in each of their selections).  [/quote]
