Look, whoever you are, if you're going to get push back from what we used to call "the man," then ignore the man, do a Farrakhan, and rebuild communities through grass roots efforts. If you don't trust others, then put your trust in the black community leaders and do something.

Protect the kids by educating them first.  You know the majority of prisoners are illiterate - something astounding like 3/4 of the prison population.  What's the hope in finding a job when you're illiterate?  in reading a rental lease or obtaining a mortgage when you're illiterate?  of attending college?

Work with the schools.  It's not easy, but it's the only hope.  Keep the [b]kids [/b]off the streets where they get involved in gangs and buy and sell drugs - and worse.

Whites are the enemy.  So go around the whites. Work around black cops who won't side with you.

I don't know what else to say - not that you care b/c you're still going to call me a goddamn racist.

I wrote the first post - and corrected some mistakes.

As a white person, I don't believe you can change people - at least not the current older generation.  I'm 50. I've been an educator for over 20 years, and I've seen kids change over the years - becoming more distant, trusting people less and less.

So no, I don't see hope in lessening tension, in changing mindsets.  Until we become a brown nation, this division will always exist.  However, that doesn't mean that communities can't help themselves. That's a sad vision  to paint, as there are many dedicated individuals in communities who feel isolated.  This can only change when people start to connect. There's no other way, imo, to reshape struggling communities.

But expecting white people to join in the cause (most whites,as I can't speak for all whites) won't amount to much.  We've passed the kumbaya stage of the 60s and 70s, and people are too angry, feeling too threatened to even care.  Remember that during the 60s whites made up almost 90% of the population.  So when they were fighting for a cause during the 60, lifting the spirits and rights of 10% of the population wouldn't affect them much.  As white numbers shrink, so does white security.

But I'm confused as to who's too lazy to change?  whites?  blacks?  I agree that moral superiority is key.  We always try to one up each other - even w/in cultures.
