For RIO moms, it's about two things (1) sports and (2) race/socioeconomic status
You know Oakton is rated one of the top schools academically in Virginia, right? I wish people would stop calling Oakton parents “obnoxious” and assuming they know why we like the school. (Yes, I’m an Oakton parent.? Oakton parents are labeled as “Karens” and whiners when they voice their opinions. I haven’t seen anyone else on this forum labeled as such so frequently when sharing their perspectives.
Similar to Langley, you do realize that's more a function of the low FARMS student body itself than anything magical happening at the school, right? So yes, you are a bunch of Karens who think you're too good to be associated with the poor kids at a new school that will have a relatively higher FARMS rate than your current bubble.
DP. This is why democrats lose elections. There is no better way to hemorrhage professional class support than to go after them for wanting their kids to remain in the school pyramid that they choose when they bought their house. You’re too dense to realize that these “Karens” are the backbone of the very school system that you desperately need to educate your kids. You poster are responsible for the general decline of our public school system. Sincerely, A Karen who doesn’t believe that her kids should be moved on the basis of your equity fever dream
I'm a Republican so I don't have any equity dream, thanks. I just believe kids should be sent to the closest school. If you believe paying money should guarantee a specific school then go private.
Amazing that the far right and far left are teaming up to try to destroy the school system with these boundary moves. Equity warriors went through the worm hole and popped out MAGA.
Or, maybe you just hold a minority position! I don't give a sheet how much you paid your house that is 30 min away from your preferred school. Boundaries have never been guaranteed. It is explicitly stated in the boundary finder tool.
Nor does it seems that you care about the caliber of FCPS. When did you lose sight of the learning? And, if you think I’m in the minority, you should go to the next boundary meeting and see how many people agree with me. Or you can go review the public comments from the last two years. Overwhelmingly in my camp, not your equity warrior/MAGA camp.
If you live in an area likely to move to Skyview and you’re either happy about it or indifferent, why show up at a boundary meeting? They’ve already bought the school and directed Reid to open it as a neighborhood school. There’s nothing in it for me to attend a meeting and listen to 10 people complain about why they shouldn’t get moved from Oakton. If your position is that boundary stability is paramount and they should never open new high schools or adjust boundaries, (1) you’ve lost that argument as Skyview is opening whether you like it or not; and (2) you should have spent less time here complaining about “equity warriors” and more time lobbying FCPS to expand crowded schools like Chantilly and McLean.
