Rights of gun owners supersede that of children (who can’t even vote). Nobody seems to have a problem with that, which is a much bigger problem than trans taking away your child’s deserved first place medal (which probably didn’t even happen to you).
Okay but that’s not the issue at hand. Gun rights don’t come up in opposition to trans rights in bills, legislative action, etc. Voters can’t look at a single vote and say whether that representative prioritized trans rights over women’s rights or vice versa. Your wishing that people took gun rights and the harms from guns seriously does not change electoral reality. Women’s rights, on the other hand, do come up directly in conflict with trans rights. Voters can easily see the positions chosen. And the Democrats are on the wrong side of this issue. Look at Chris Murphy: he said that he didn’t think boys in girls sports was fair, but when presented with the opportunity to vote that conviction, he chose trans rights over girls rights. That is a very clear position that voters can see. The problem the Democrats have is that their actions are easily visible here, and they’ve aligned themselves with a regressive sexist, misogynist, and homophobic approach. The more that voters learn what trans rights actually means particularly when in conflict with women’s rights, the less popular that position is. It is another issue where the Democrats are on the wrong side of history. I want Democrats to win so that things like gun control can be implemented. I’m tired of MAGA and how much they are hurting the entire country. And maybe the Republicans will screw things up so incredibly badly that trans rights versus women’s rights as an issue won’t be an election factor. We can hope. But so far, I don’t see that happening. Which means the Democrats cannot continue to use avoidance as a strategy for this issue that they’ve created and championed.
