That’s not what the data shows.  It shows that about 35% have a prior conviction and that 7% have a conviction for a violent offense.  PP implied that those 35% don’t pose a risk to the public because their convictions are nonviolent.  My point is simply that a nonviolent offense isn’t necessarily trivial.

That's consistent with the general population - FBI interstate index shows that around 70% of US citizens have no prior conviction and 8% of US citizens have a felony record.

As such, deporting illegals really doesn't change overall crime or risk stats.  But again, we demonize and smear them and depict them as a national risk and as dangerous criminals even though the data shows they're really no worse than US citizens.  Why?[/quote]

Logic fail.  Where does it say anything about that?  Of course we should.  But it still doesn't change overall crime stats.

Look, nobody is arguing against deporting violent criminals.  The problem is that most of them aren't.  We need farm workers, construction workers and so on.  We need a visa program that will let them come and work, provided they don't commit any crimes. We also hand out a million green cards a year, plus more than that come as automatic issued green cards for family chain migration.
