Hardly "low hanging fruit." And this ICE agent is yet another victim of Biden's border crisis. [twitter]https://x.com/DHSgov/status/1936454857864409244[/twitter] This “Bellevue man” is a known Tren de Aragua terrorist who violently attacked federal law enforcement. During the attack, the illegal alien threw an ICE agent to the ground, slammed her head into the pavement, ripped off her body armor, and made repeated and physical violent contact. The agent sustained serious injuries to her head and arm. Gabriel Hurtado-Cariaco entered the U.S. illegally in 2023—and Border Patrol removed him. In 2024—under the Biden administration—he re-entered the U.S. illegally and was released into the country with a notice to appear. The Department of Justice has charged Gabriel Hurtado-Cariaco with attempted murder of a federal officer and assault of a federal officer with infliction of bodily injury.
Science is not built upon anecdotes . An independent study just found that 90% of their detainees have never committed a violent crime. So yeah, this is being implemented SO inefficiently that there are thousands of better ways to spend my tax dollars.
The violent/nonviolent distinction is meaningless. Identity theft, distribution of fentanyl, possession of child pornography, and possessing a handgun after a felony conviction are all nonviolent crimes. Do you think those types of criminals shouldn’t be deported?
DP... Studies and FOIAs of ICE's own data show that apart from crossing the border, more than 90% of them didn't commit any kind of crime whatsoever. No criminal history, no prior convictions, nothing. Why are you trying to falsely smear them with being distributors of fentanyl, child porn et cetera when there's no evidence that most of them have any kind of history doing that?
That’s not what the data shows. It shows that about 35% have a prior conviction and that 7% have a conviction for a violent offense. PP implied that those 35% don’t pose a risk to the public because their convictions are nonviolent. My point is simply that a nonviolent offense isn’t necessarily trivial. https://www.cato.org/blog/65-people-taken-ice-had-no-convictions-93-no-violent-convictions
That's consistent with the general population - FBI interstate index shows that around 70% of US citizens have no prior conviction and 8% of US citizens have a felony record. As such, deporting illegals really doesn't change overall crime or risk stats. But again, we demonize and smear them and depict them as a national risk and as dangerous criminals even though the data shows they're really no worse than US citizens. Why?
So if an illegal alien murders someone and they serve their sentence, you believe they shouldn’t be deported?
Logic fail. Where does it say anything about that? Of course we should. But it still doesn't change overall crime stats. Look, nobody is arguing against deporting violent criminals. The problem is that most of them aren't. We need farm workers, construction workers and so on. We need a visa program that will let them come and work, provided they don't commit any crimes. Why is that so damn hard for Republicans to comprehend?
We have many visa programs, including for agricultural work. We also hand out a million green cards a year, plus more than that come as automatic issued green cards for family chain migration. No need for more to come illegally. The ones who came here illegally already should be deported.
Seeking asylum or being granted TPS status is not illegal. Why is that hard to understand?
