[/quote] Madoff was conning retail investors at the synagogue, the country club, doctors, dentists, etc. He was scamming money from widows and orphans. Scamming money from nonprofits/charities. Taking his temple's reserves/endowment and scamming it. The Millers appear to have targeted other real estate industry and "investor" types (some of whom were also personal friends). They were not doing a broad scam of clueless retail investors, charities, and religious institutions. The Miller's seem to have a fairly small circle of victims. Madoff had something like 25,000 victims. [/quote]
