Why would people call the police when they know the criminals won’t be prosecuted? As someone who has lived a the city for 25 years, I can honestly say crime is much worse. Our once quiet neighborhood has car break ins almost nightly. No one reports. Until it escalates to car stolen or someone is carjacked, no one reports. Retail thefts may not be reported to police routinely, but watch how many stores are closing in the city: they wouldn’t be doing that if if were business as usual. They do that because they can’t afford all the loss to shoplifting. [/quote]
