One of the scariest moments of my life was, in the late 70s, escorting a former East German family member back through The Zone to visit an ailing aunt who lived in West Berlin (and was there by happenstance from the '40s while the rest of the family was stuck in Russian-controlled territory). My family member was terrified the heavily-armed guards would see the name on their US passport, compare it to some roster of those who'd escaped socialist/communist clutches and be arrested or detained. Now, that didn't happen but it sure as hell could've.

That said, I'm not a fan of a wall. But I'd definitely like to see better enforcement of existing laws (like booting visa-overstays), more clear definitions and understanding on what is legally present, faster processing of asylum requests, and a hard 'no' to the things like employment and education that facilitate those who are just 'here' but shouldn't be.[/quote]
