ICYMI: Angel played for the MD Terps and was nothing but drama. She’s a diva who doesn’t want to be a team player. That’s precisely why she left. When she transferred, she trash talked the program and there were allegations of racism. Long story short: she prompted others to leave as well. Fast forward: now the world realizes that *Angel* was the drama Queen who sees everything as racist. People like her will never be happy. Their insecurity fuels bizarre behavior and an arrogance they wear like a suit of armor or Viking shield. Someone should pull her aside and try to help her acquire a more humble confidence. Otherwise she will crash and burn.
So other people with first hand experience left, but you're assuming that there is nothing to the underlying allegations?
I believe Angel launched a mutiny. She obviously has a strong personality and isn’t shy about speaking up. I think she spewed negativity and some followed her. The Lady Terps coach is widely known as a team builder. She expects everyone to do their best together. If you deliver, you play. If you are tired, you sit. Angel simply didn’t want to be told what to do. And perhaps the latest media coverage coupled with Angel’s own words prove that she is a woman who sees race and racism in everything. That’s sad. It’s a heckuva way to go through life.
Frese is living off of past glory and has been for years. I guess MD basketball is ok with irrelevance as long as the Big10 checks roll in
That’s an opinion, not a fact. My two cents: given that Frese took her team to the Elite 8 despite losing Angel and a handful of other top players seems to indicate she is a gifted coach who leads a *team* to excellence. Frese is known as a good person irl.
Yeah, but she’d be more gifted, if she got a ring.
Frese has a ring. She’s had a long coaching career and she quickly rebuilt and had an excellent season after Angel stomped off. I think society is growing tired of people like Angel. I suspect Frese will continue to recruit well and produce talented players. She’s had a lot of players go to the WNBA.
I suspect she'll continue to come up short. 2006 is a long time ago
I mean, you can’t win every year. Had Angel and the others stayed, the Lady Terps might have won it all this year.
Being a coach requires creating a program people wanna stay at.
Stanford had the #1 recruited player last year, a #1 seed in the tournament and guess what? She has entered the transfer portal. It’s a new day in college sports with the portal and NIL deals.
But she only played 10 minutes a game despite being really efficient and was stuck behind the same players that would be there next year. Angel had good PT at Maryland.
Because Diamond Miller was injured last year.
What's your point? Are you suggesting that had Angel stayed at MD this year she would have been a bench player behind Diamond?
