It's totally okay to spread Covid HERE. Nevermind about long covid. Nevermind that even mild cases of covid cause elevated heart risk issues in 3% above what's normal of the population post infection. Nevermind about this B2 variant that spreads more quickly and is more dangerous that B1 Omicron and is causing concern in other countries. If you're not okay with getting or spreading a little bit of covid at this point, your only goal must be zero covid or lowest covid possible and any sacrifices to get there must be worth it. Like some of us have other considerations besides physical health in mind when having an opinion. Such as, from earlier comments in this and other threads: Lipstick. Seeing people's beautiful smiles. Right.
Covid spread is quite low here right now. If you aren't unwilling to unmask now, you're never going to be willing to unmask. One reasonable course of action is to unmask when cases are low and re-evaluate as you go along. If the B2 variant is coming for us, well I'll be glad I got a masking break and I'll put my mask back on. The snark about it only being about lipstick and smiles is lame. If you can't see why humans don't want to wear masks all the time, then you don't see it. And if you can't see why it might not be great for kids to grow up for years on end wearing masks, then you don't see it.
I would be willing to unmask right now if I didn’t have a super expensive international trip coming up for spring break. Not willing to have the whole family go down over the next four weeks when we’ve made it this far. You have no idea why people are still masking. i know my reason is purely selfish and privileged.
Guess you haven't seen the research that masks don't work (except when perfectly put on a mannequin in a labratory - they don't in real life setting with real life humans).
Well we mask regularly inside, frequent stores, gym, and kids play on mix of indoor or outdoor sports. Never had Covid. So we’re sticking with what’s been working until spring break.
You've probably already had Covid and didn't know it. (More than 1/3 of Virginians have already had it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/02/28/covid-cases-nationwide/)
I know that’s what you would like to think, but we are all testing weekly due to various reasons related to school, work, etc.
Who is “we are all”? I’m not doing that and no one I know is doing that.
My family. I’m referring to my situation given we have not had COVID.
May whole family had covid. I had symptoms but never tested positive. Either I’m immune to covid or else I just don’t show positive.
OK cool story, I think the new feature where you can’t see the whole thread at once has people responding with random statements. This started with me saying we are masking until spring break because we have a vacation planned. Someone else responded saying masks don’t work. I indicated that we do a shit ton of stuff inside with masks and family has never gotten Covid, but that was disputed because so many people in this area have apparently already had it. I responded saying that we test at least weekly, everyone in our household. We have never had Covid, we’ve never been sick this entire time. I have a severe immune system issues so we would have known. Maybe we were lucky, maybe the KN95s really work for us. Whatever, we’re going to keep masking due to our vacation and the bro dads/rage moms can keep being irritated by it.
It's bizarre that the anti maskers are so triggered by OTHER people wearing masks. I have a high risk condition so I need to wear masks indoors. And my allergist just told me to wear my mask outdoors now because of spring allergens. Wasn't crazy about doing that but tried it and it does help. So now I will be wearing my mask outside too not for Covid but for allergies. Why do other people care what I do?
"Anti-maskers" in this area aren't triggered by other people wearing masks. They do not care. They are triggered by other people telling them that they are selfish, horrible human beings for not wearing a mask. They are triggered by people saying that their non-mask-wearing kids should go off in a room by themselves to be taught separately. They are triggered by people saying that they should be more worried about covid, long covid, catching covid multiple times, etc.
I am also triggered by the passive aggressive commentary. We let Johnny decide what to do and he wants to wear a mask since he cares about others and the community.
If that type of a comment makes you feel bad, you should consider why that is.
It doesn't make me feel bad. It makes me feel annoyed. I find passive aggressive people annoying. We all know them. People who slip their digs in with the saccharine sweet BS delivery. And please note, women do this. Not men. Just get over it and say what you mean.
Well your decision not to mask does have an impact on other people. If you find it annoying when others express appreciation for those who take others' into account, that's on you.
I guess you're the type who makes these comments. People smile at you but think you're insufferable. In case you're wondering.
Wow. So I can't even say thank you to those who help to protect my family's health because it may make those who don't feed bad? Look, if you don't want to mask, don't. It's clearly your choice these days. But own the consequences.
