I think VLC will be happy when their 22 team is gone. Their 23s are good and their younger teams are coming along but the 22 team is another story. Their 22s have some good players on defense but on the offensive end (both attack and mid) they are just weak. It's a shame but I think it's too late for them to do anything about it. I'd imagine you'll see the college recruiting drop a bit for 22s (with the exception of about 5 or 6 players on the defensive end and maybe fogo or lsm) and then pick back up for the following years. Who knows, maybe the 22s will all have exponential skills growth this year in HS lacrosse but that would be a huge surprise. Rumor is a few kids on the offensive end have left but I don't think them leaving made them team any weaker. If anything it was probably good to see dead weight leave.
Hope this mom (or dad) is one of the ones who left and is just sour grapin’ it. I’d hate to think a current parent thinks this way.
The whole team struggled last Summer and the D wasn't that great. They couldn't clear the ball at all. The attack was the weakest, kids on their man up unit couldn't catch or throw. That whole team needed to hit the wall. They have good coaches, hopefully they got a few more kids and can do better. The VLC 21's were/are weak too. VLC was late to fielding younger teams and it hurt them in a couple of birth years but it is still a good club for VA kids.
From what I saw the lack of throwing/catching in the offensive end made the defense play a lot longer and the lack of short stick support on clears made the clearing weak. Most turnovers happened at midfield and the defense got little rest. Neither end was lighting the world on fire, but I would say with a solid midfield/attack in front of them the defense could hold its own. I'm a 21 parent but watched enough of the 22s play at mutual tournaments to form a reasonable opinion. Actual 22 parents may disagree and certainly would have a better sample size than what I saw.
